Pedro Martinez was named A to Z League player of the week for the week ending May 1. Martinez earned two victories, beating Davenport 2-1 and Jefferson County 1-0. Pedro struck out 21 in his two starts. Tom Seaver also had two victories for the week. Lou Gehrig smashed five homers and drove in ten runs for the week.

As the calendar turns to May Bainbridge Island has the best record in the loop at 15-7 and leads the Puget Division by 2 1/2 games over Snoqualmie. Kelso is the hottest club in the league, having won nine in a row, and at 14-8 leads the South Division by one game over Goldendale. Moses Lake boasts a six-game winning streak and is also 14-8, a game better than Wenatchee in the East. Ocean Shores is 14-7 and one up on Forks in the Coast Division.

Pete Alexander scattered eight hits and Dick Allen drove in three runs as Aberdeen topped Ocean Shores 8-1. Josh Gibson and Gehrig both hit two homers and Lefty Gomez spun a seven-hitter and Goldendale thumped Pasco 10-1. The Trouts beat Renton; Dizzy pitched a three-hitter and Mike had a homer and three RBI as Tumwater prevailed 3-0.
April 26
Mel Ott went 4-for-5 with two homers and a double and knocked in four runs to lead Ocean Shores to a 7-4 win over Aberdeen. Whitey Ford pitched seven solid innings as Forks topped Jefferson County 6-1. Barry Bonds hit a grand slam in the sixth and Bainbridge Island beat Cashmere 4-2. Pedro Martinez allowed just one run on five hits and fanned 13 in eight innings as Moses Lake bested Davenport 2-1. Justin Upton's pinch homer in the bottom of the ninth gave Quincy a 5-4 win over Ephrata. Paul Waner drove in five runs as Wenatchee whomped Yakima 8-3. Pasco scored six in the sixth and prevailed over Goldendale 9-6. Mike Schmidt hit a pair of homers and drove in six runs in Snoqualmie's 10-2 rout of North Bend.
April 27
Roberto Alomar and Allen hit homers as Aberdeen whipped Ocean Shores 9-2. Chipper Jones knocked in four runs and Reggie Jackson drove in three during Jefferson County's 11-3 rout of Forks. Evan Longoria hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the eleventh to give Long Beach a 5-4 win over Hoquiam. Rod Carew's three hits included an RBI single in the top of the tenth that gave Cashmere a 3-2 win over Bainbridge Island. Greg Maddux pitched seven OK innings and drove in three runs as Moses Lake edged Davenport 5-4. Ernie Whitt drove in four runs as Wentachee thumped Yakima 8-4. Albert Pujols had four hits, including a leadoff homer in the bottom of the tenth that gave Pasco a 6-5 win over Goldendale. Sandy Koufax pitched a three-hitter and fanned ten and Jumbo Kimbro and Jeff Kent homered in Kelso's 5-0 win over Vancouver.
April 28
Tommy John and Kenley Jansen combined on a five-hitter and Derek Jeter hit an inside-the-park homer for Jefferson County's only run in a 1-0 win over Forks. Dolf Luque pitched eight solid innings in Long Beach's 6-3 win over Hoquiam. Ernie Banks walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth to give Bainbridge Island a 7-6 win over Cashmere. Stan Musial and Joe Morgan homered as Moses Lake beat Davenport 5-4. Yutaka Enatsu pitched a four-hitter, hit a home run, and drove in three as Ephrata thumped Quincy 8-2. Yakima scored six in the first and rolled to a 9-6 win over Wenatchee. Camilo Pascual and Ron Perranoski combined on a three-hitter and Pasco edged Goldendale and Bob Gibson 2-1. Clayton Kershaw improved his record to 3-0 with a five-hit, 2-1 win at Vancouver. Graig Nettles hit three home runs and drove in six to lead North Bend past Snoqualmie 9-3.

Wes Farrell and John Franco combined on a six-hitter and Forks beat Jefferson County 4-2. Barry Bonds snapped a tie with a homer off Stan Coveleski in the bottom of the eighth and Bainbridge Island edged Cashmere 2-1. Howard Ehmke and Dennis Eckersley combined on a three-hitter and Ephrata scored three in the top of the ninth to win at Quincy 3-1. Wenatchee piled up 20 hits, including two homers by Ted Williams and one by Dave Winfield, in a 12-5 rout of Yakima. Chuck Klein drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the top of the eighth and Kelso held on to beat Vancouver 4-2. Warren Spahn pitched a three-hitter and fanned 10 as Snoqualmie blanked North Bend 6-0.
April 30
Roger Clemens pitched a five-hitter and Gary Carter drove in four runs as Cashmere beat Aberdeen 6-2. Bucky Walters twirled a five-hitter and Wenatchee beat Bainbridge Island 5-1. Gehrig had three RBI and Ken Griffey, Jr. had two as Goldendale outscored North Bend 8-7. Charlie Keller knocked a pair of homers and drove in five runs to lead Kelso past Renton 7-3.
May 1
Babe Adams scattered 11 hits while Aberdeen piled up 15 in a 7-3 win over Cashmere. Dizzy Dean pitched a nine-hitter and Chili Davis drove in four runs during Davenport's 7-4 win at Forks. Pedro pitched a five-hitter and improved his record to 5-0 as Moses Lake beat Randy Johnson and Jefferson County 1-0. Fred Lynn's leadoff homer in the bottom of the 12th gave Long Beach a 2-1 win over Quincy. Sadaharu Oh's homer in the bottom of the ninth was the only run of the game as Ocean Shores bested Yakima 1-0. Larry Walker had four RBI to lead Wenatchee past Bainbridge Island 7-5. Tom Glavine fired a six-hitter and Goose Goslin had a homer and three RBI as Goldendale topped North Bend 5-1. Tom Seaver spun a five-hitter and fanned eight as Snoqualmie edged Pasco 1-0.
Injuries
Brad Lidge was injured in a game April 27 and will be out for a couple of weeks. Red Lucas was called up to take his roster spot for Long Beach. Catfish Hunter went down with an injury April 27 and will be out for two to three weeks. Orel Hershiser replaces Hunter on the Hoquiam roster.
