Over the winter league officials pondered whether to get a new Windows-based computer, have the old one repaired, or bag it entirely, stick to the Macbook Pro, give up on the PC forever, and cease to use the various Windows-based software and games that we boot up on occasion when there's not an iOs-friendly alternative.
Ultimately we couldn't abandon our quest to determine Which Letter is Better when it comes to baseball history, so we landed a refurbished Lenovo ThinkCentre computer ($170 from Best Buy and equipped with Windows 10), fired up Diamond Mind Baseball--the engine that drives the A to Z League--and ran some training drills. Now that spring has sprung we're ready for opening day and a FULL season. We may even back up the data this time.
We're delighted to report that the new machine not only runs Diamond Mind flawlessly, but seems also to be handling some other favorites, including Action PC Golf from Dave Koch Sports, Empire Builder Pronto from Intersystem Concepts, and most amazingly of all our dog-eared copy of Photoshop 5.5 now installed on about its fourth or fifth computer since 1999.
Watch this space for updates of each week's A to Z League play. Our very first post will give you the scoop about what we hope to accomplish, just in case you haven't following along breathlessly from the beginning.
Play ball!
