Babe Ruth of Renton slammed four home runs in an April 16 game against North Bend, bashed six round-trippers for the week, and captured player of the week honors in the A to Z League. Ruth batted .526 (10-for-19) for the week, had 13 RBI and scored nine runs. Pedro Martinez was a runner-up for the award. Pedro pitched two complete-game shutouts, allowing just seven hits and striking out 15 over 18 innnings.

Joe Adcock cracked a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth off Tom Henke and Aberdeen topped Hoquiam 3-1. Bill Freehan singled with the sacks full in the bottom of the 13th and Forks edged Long Beach 4-3. Roger Clemens pitched a six-hitter and Cashmere beat Ephrata 9-4. Ichiro had three hits and scored twice in Quincy's 4-3 win at Davenport. Pedro Martinez pitched a four-hitter and fanned seven as Moses Lake blanked Snoqualmie and Tom Seaver 6-0. Early Wynn tossed a six-hitter and Honus Wagner and Ted Williams both drove in three runs as Wenatchee topped Kelso 8-3. Dave Parker belted a pinch-hit solo shot in the bottom of the ninth and Pasco edged Yakima 3-2. Bainbridge Island overcame a 6-1 deficit and beat Renton 7-6 on Carlos Beltran's homer in the bottom of the ninth. Jim Thome went 4-for-4, including two homers and five RBI, and Tumwater pounded North Bend 11-2.

Catfish Hunter pitched a five-hitter and Stan Hack homered as Hoquiam blanked Aberdeen 2-0. George Foster slugged two homers--he now has four on the season--and drove in four runs to lead Forks past Long Beach 6-4. Brian Jordan singled home Andruw Jones in the bottom of the 14th to give Jefferson County a 6-5 win over Ocean Shores. Del Ennis hit a three-run homer to cap Ephrata's five-run eighth and the E's beat Cashmere and Steve Carlton 6-5. Andre Dawson hit a pair of homers and drove in three runs as Davenport topped Quincy 5-3. Eddie Mathews tripled to plate Mickey Mantle in the bottom of the tenth, giving Moses Lake a 4-3 win over Snoqualmie. Matt Williams hit a pair of homers, his third and fourth of the year, to power Wenatchee to a 5-2 win over Kelso. Frank Viola pitched a five-hitter and Vancouver topped Goldendale 8-1. Gaylord Perry spun a four-hitter and Kirby Puckett hit a pair of home runs and knocked in five as Pasco beat Yakima 7-2. George Brett and Bobby Bonds homered and Bainbridge Island topped Renton 4-1.

Todd Helton hit a three-run homer in the top of the first, and Hoquiam led all the way in a 6-4 win over Aberdeen. Home Run Johnson, Chipper Jones, and Andruw Jones went deep in Jefferson County's 5-2 win over Ocean Shores. Ty Cobb had three hits, including a three-run homer during Cashmere's five-run third, as the C's bested Ephrata 7-3. Mantle and Johnny Mize both homered for Moses Lake, Mantle driving in four runs and Mize three to lead the M's to a 10-4 win over Snoqualmie. Terry Kennedy hit a grand slam in the top of the ninth as Kelso came from behind to beat Wenatchee 5-2.

Rogers Hornsby's sacrifice fly plated Rickey Henderson with the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth, and Trevor Hoffman locked down Hoquiam's 4-3 win over Aberdeen. Adam Wainwright pitched a three-hitter, with last-out relief help from Duane Ward, and Ted Williams ripped three home runs as Wenatchee blanked Kelso 9-0. Ruth hit two doubles and a home run and drove in five as Renton piled up 19 hits in a 16-4 romp over Bainbridge Island. Mike Trout had three hits, including a home run and a double, and drove in three runs to back Luis Tiant, Sr. as Tumwater blanked North Bend 10-0.
April 15
Randy Johnson pitched a five-hitter and fanned nine and Jefferson County blanked Aberdeen 2-0. Jim Fregosi hit a pinch triple with one out in the top of the 12th, scored on an infield hit by Frankie Frisch, and Forks went on to a 3-1 win over Hoquiam. Dennis Martinez twirled a four-hitter, Stan Musial hit a three-run homer in the first, and Moses Lake rolled to a 6-0 win over Cashmere. Jack Quinn tossed a five-hitter, Chase Utley had a homer and three RBI, and Quincy beat Tumwater 7-1. Hank Greenberg hit a pinch, three-run homer in the top of the seventh and Goldendale held on for a 3-2 win over Kelso.

Ruth knocked four home runs and drove in five to lead Renton in a 9-8 win over North Bend. Roy Halladay pitched a five-hitter and Helton and Gabby Hartnett homered as Hoquiam topped Forks 5-0. Al Oliver and Steve O'Neill had three hits each as Ocean Shores piled up 14 safeties in outscoring Long Beach 9-6. Pedro pitched a three-hitter and fanned nine as Moses Lake blanked Cashmere 9-0. Ephrata scored five in the bottom of the eighth, the final two on a bases-loaded single by Luke Easter, and came from behind to beat Davenport 5-4. Pasco backed Jim Palmer with 15 hits in an 11-3 win over Wenatchee. Mike Schmidt and Willie Stargell homered to highlight a four-run eighth as Snoqualmie came from behind to beat Bainbridge Island 5-3.

Jefferson County scored six in the bottom of the eighth to beat Aberdeen 9-6. Bob Feller scattered nine hits and Forks pounded 15 hits to rout Hoquiam 12-3. Fritz Ostermueller pitched seven shutout innings and Ocean Shores topped Long Beach 7-2. Cashmere scored five in the first and rolled over Moses Lake 9-3. Quincy committed five errors but beat Tumwater 10-9 on Juan Uribe's homer in the top of the tenth. Lon Warneke gave up just four hits in eight innings as Wenatchee topped Pasco 4-1. Jumbo Kimbro hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eleventh and Kelso edged Goldendale 10-8. Cy Young spun a seven-hitter as Yakima blanked Vancouver 3-0. Duke Snider's three-run homer capped a four-run seventh as Snoqualmie topped Bainbridge Island 5-3. Frank Robinson drove in four runs in Renton's 7-3 win over North Bend.
