Buck Leonard slugged a three-run homer to cap Long Beach's four-run seventh and the L's went on to beat Cashmere 5-2. Mike Schmidt hit a grand slam in the third and Ted Simmons hit two solo shots but Goose Goslin homered during a five-run eighth and Goldendale beat Snoqualmie in 10 innings 9-8. Tim Hudson pitched eight solid innings and drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the second and Hoquiam topped Quincy 5-2. Paul Konerko hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth and Kelso bested Tumwater 4-2.
May 11: Jeff Bagwell's three-run homer in the third was the key hit in Bainbridge Island's 6-3 win at Vancouver. Roy Campanella had a homer, two singles, and six RBI in Cashmere's 8-2 victory at Long Beach. Tris Speaker's homer in the top of the ninth snapped a tie and Snoqualmie topped Goldendale 2-1. Roy Halladay pitched a three-hitter and improved his record to 6-0 in Hoquiam's 3-0 win over Quincy. Jefferson County scored three on Chipper Jones's bases-loaded double in the sixth and held on to beat Pasco 4-2. Ryan Zimmerman had a pair of homers and a triple, drove in three runs and scored three in Yakima's 9-3 romp over North Bend. Willie Wilson singled home the winning run in the bottom of the tenth as Wenatchee edged Renton 4-3.
May 12: Jake Arrieta returned from the injured list and pitched a complete-game seven-hitter and Joe Adcock hit his tenth homer, a three-run bomb in the third, as Aberdeen thumped Ephrata 8-3. Steve Carlton improved his record to 6-2 as Cashmere beat Long Beach 5-3. Don Drysdale went all the way as Davenport beat Ocean Shores 8-3. Goslin had four hits, scored three runs and drove in two as Goldendale edged Snoqualmie 6-5. Hoquiam beat Quincy 5-2 as Felix Hernandez improved his record to 5-1. Joe Judge drove in three runs and Reggie Jackson and Chipper Jones had two RBI each as Jefferson County romped over Pasco 10-5. Mike Trout had a triple, homer, and three RBI in Tumwater's 7-2 win over Kelso. Phil Niekro pitched an eight-hitter and Phil Nevin drove in three runs as North Bend topped Yakima 5-2. Williams went 4-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI, leading Wenatchee to a 7-5 win over Renton.
May 13: Aberdeen piled up 17 hits in an 8-4 win over Ephrata. A grand slam by Dwight Evans was the only scoring play for the E's. Buck Leonard and Javy Lopez homered as Long Beach topped Cashmere 8-4. Christy Matthewson pitched seven solid innings as Moses Lake won at Forks 6-1. Snoqualmie scored five in the top of the eighth in a comeback, 10-6 win at Goldendale. Rogers Hornsby hit a three-run triple as Carl Hubbell and Hoquiam beat Quincy 4-2. Dave Johnson's solo homer in the bottom of the eighth snapped a tie and Kenley Jansen saved a 4-3 victory for Jefferson County over Pasco. Frank Thomas hit a three-run homer in the top of the eighth to give Tumwater a come-from-behind 7-6 win at Kelso. Gary Nolan pitched a two-hitter and North Bend blanked Yakima 2-0. Williams went 4-for-4 with a homer to back Smokey Joe Williams's three-hitter as Wenatchee blasted Renton 10-2.
May 14: Pete Alexander pitched a four-hitter and Aberdeen blanked Ephrata 2-0. Davenport scored two in the top of the eighth to win a wild one at Ocean Shores 10-9. Moses Lake and Forks were locked in a 0-0 tie through 13 innings. Rabbit Maranville hit a two-run homer in the top of the 14th and the M's held on to win 2-1. Reggie hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth and Jefferson County edged Pasco 7-6. Wenatchee pounded 17 hits and buried Renton 16-4. Ted Williams led the way with three hits, including a triple and a home run, and five RBI. Williams has 11 hits in the past three games.
May 15: Albert Pujols hit a three-run homer in the seventh and Pasco held on to beat Bainbridge Island 5-3. Mickey Cochrane's two-run double in the sixth was the difference maker as Cashmere edged Jefferson County 4-3. Lou Gehrig and Tony Gwynn both had two RBI as Goldendale bested Tumwater 4-2. Corey Kluber pitched a two-hitter and fanned 11 in his return from the injured list and Kelso blanked Hoquiam 4-0. Vancouver scored four in the top of the ninth but the rally fell short and North Bend prevailed 6-5. Snoqualmie's eleven hits included four home runs and the S's outscored Wenatchee 10-6.
May 16: Moses Lake scored all five of its runs in the bottom of the ninth in a 5-4 win over Aberdeen. Joe Morgan tied the game with a bases-loaded triple, and Willie Mays singled to plate Morgan with the game winner. Pujols scored three runs and Vada Pinson drove in four as Pasco topped Bainbridge Island 7-5. Cashmere scored a run in the first and it stood up as Roger Clemens bested Walter Johnson and Jefferson County 1-0. Leonard homered in the top of the 12th and Long Beach edged Davenport 2-1. Luke Easter and Del Ennis each drove in two runs as Ephrata bested Ocean Shores 5-1. Quincy scored seven in the bottom of the eighth to take a 9-6 lead, Forks tied it with three in the ninth, and the Quirks pushed across a run in the bottom of the frame to walk off with a 10-9 win. Hank Greenberg homered and drove in three runs in Goldendale's 9-4 win at Tumwater. Shane Victorino drove in four runs and Vancouver outscored North Bend 9-7. Red Ruffing pitched a four-hitter and Renton blanked Yakima 4-0. Hoyt Wilhelm hit Speaker with an errant knuckleball with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to hand Snoqualmie a 6-5 win over Wenatchee.
Injuries
Quincy lost two players during a May 11 game at Hoquiam. Starting pitcher George Uhle left the game in the fourth with a sore wrist and Del Unser twisted his ankle running out a grounder in the ninth. Both will be out for a couple of weeks.
