May 3: Aaron hit a grand slam in the bottom of the tenth to give Aberdeen a wild, 14-10 win over Cashmere. Aaron also hit a two-run shot in the eighth and went 4-for-6 on the day with eight RBI. Alomar went 5-for-5 and scored four runs for the A's. Larry Walker homered and drove in four runs as Wenatchee topped Bainbridge Island 6-2. Barry Bonds hit his tenth homer of the season for the B's. Carlos Delgado hit a three-run homer in the first and John Donaldson pitched a six-hitter as Davenport blanked Forks 4-0. Hank Greenberg blasted a pinch-hit grand slam in the top of the eighth and Goldendale beat North Bend 8-6. Christy Matthewson hit a two-run homer to cap Moses Lake's seven-run first as the M's routed Jefferson County 12-5. Roger Maris, just called up because of an injury to Stan Musial, went 3-for-5 with a homer and drove in four. Double Duty Radcliffe pitched a three-hitter and Frank Robinson homered as Renton shut out Kelso 3-0. Willie Upshaw's three-run homer capped Quincy's four-run rally in the sixth and the Quirks held on to be Long Beach 5-4. Gaylord Perry allowed two solo homers in the first, but gave up just one other hit as Pasco topped Snoqualmie 6-2. Luis Tiant, Jr. pitched a five-hitter and Gene Tenace hit a grand slam in the third as Tumwater thumped Vancouver 8-1.
May 4: Ty Cobb had three hits, scored a run and drove in two as Cashmere topped Aberdeen 5-1. Martin Dihigo pitched a five-hitter and Delgado clubbed two homers and knocked in four as Davenport topped Forks 7-1. Carl Erskine took a no-hitter into the seventh, but Hoquiam scored five in the bottom of the eighth and beat Ephrata 5-3. Willie Mays and Thurman Munson homered during a three-run eighth and Moses Lake came from behind to beat Jefferson County 6-3. Bill Terry hit three doubles, drove in three runs and scored one as Tumwater defeated Vancouver 7-5.
May 5: Wilbur Cooper pitched a two-hitter and Cashmere blanked Ocean Shores 4-0. Red Faber hit a home run and pitched seven solid innings, allowing just three hits and an unearned run as Forks topped Ephrata 4-1. Reggie Jackson's two-run homer in the fourth was all Jefferson County needed in a 2-1 win over Quincy. Snoqualmie pounded out 16 hits in a 10-4 romp against Kelso. Smokey Joe Williams pitched a four-hitter and Wenatchee thumped North Bend 9-3. Tumwater plated three in the eighth and outscored Pasco 10-8.
May 6: Mel Ott clubbed his eleventh home run, a three-run shot in the top of the seventh, and Ocean Shores won at Cashmere 3-2. Willie Foster pitched a five-hitter and Forks won at Ephrata 2-0. Josh Gibson hit a pair of home runs but Goldendale lost at Renton 7-5. Justin Upton hit a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth to snap a tie as Quincy edged Jefferson County 6-5. Hal Newhouser scattered eight hits and struck out 11 as North Bend topped Wenatchee 6-1. Frank Tanana pitched a two-hitter and Tumwater shut out Pasco 2-0.
May 7: Andre Dawson hit a three-run double in the fifth and a three-run homer in the seventh to lead Davenport to an 8-4 win over Aberdeen. Bainbridge Island scored five in the third and three pitchers held Yakima to just three hits in a 6-0 shutout of the Z's. Rocky Colavito hit two homers and drove in five runs during Cashmere's 10-6 win over Ocean Shores. Howard Ehmke pitched a three-hitter and Ephrata blanked Forks 2-0. Renton and Goldendale were tied 4-4 with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the ninth at Liberty Park when the skies opened up and the rain came down. After a 63-minute delay, Manny Ramirez singled to give the R's the win. Gabby Hartnett hit two homers and drove in all the Hoquiam runs in a 5-3 win over Moses Lake. Upton homered and drove in three as Quincy topped Jefferson County 5-4. Ted Simmons had three hits, including a homer, and drove in four as Snoqualmie beat Kelso 5-3.
May 8: Aaron had four hits and scored three runs against Davenport; Larry Doby's pinch-hit grand slam in the eighth made it close, but Aberdeen prevailed 9-8. Bainbridge Island led 6-0 after six, but Yakima came back to win 7-6. David Cone and Norm Charlton teamed up on a five-hitter as Cashmere blanked Ocean Shores 6-0. Carl Hubbell pitched a three-hitter and Rogers Hornsby and Ron Hansen homered as Hoquiam blanked Moses Lake 2-0. Grant "Home Run" Johnson snapped a tie with a three-run pinch homer in the seventh and Jefferson County held on to beat Quincy 4-2. Warren Spahn pitched a five-hitter and Snoqualmie shut out Kelso 5-0. Mo Vaughn tied the game with a pinch-hit three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, but Long Beach prevailed in 11 innings 5-4. Albert Pujols had three hits, including his fourth home run, and Pasco bested Tumwater 7-2.
May 9: Luke Appling and Alan Ashby both hit three-run homers in the top of the ninth as Aberdeen won at Davenport 10-4. Carl Yastrzemski drove in four runs and Cy Young returned from the injured list to toss a six-hitter as Yakima beat Bainbridge Island 6-2. Goldendale made four errors in a 4-2 loss at Renton. Rivera has pitched in four straight games and earned a win and three saves. Juan Marichal fired a six-hit shutout and Moses Lake routed Hoquiam 10-0.
Injuries
George Brett of Bainbridge Island twisted an ankle running out a single against Wenatchee May 3 and will be out for a couple of weeks. The B's called up Bret Boone to fill Brett's roster spot.
