Aberdeen and Hoquiam are tied for the lead in the Coast Division. Jefferson County went 5-2 for the week and is four games back. In the East Moses Lake has won five in a row and went 6-1 for the week, moving two up on Wenatchee and six ahead of Cashmere, which stumbled to a 2-5 week. Bainbridge Island is six up on second-place Snoqualmie in the Puget Division. Goldendale is 13 games up on Pasco in the South.

August 22
Musial led off the top of the tenth with a walk, made his way to third, and scored on a fielder's choice and Moses Lake beat Aberdeen 5-4. Chris Iannetta led off the top of the 12th with a home run and Quincy held on to beat Forks 4-3. Rogers Hornsby and Matt Holliday hit home runs and Carl Hubbell pitched an eight-hitter as Hoquiam thumped Kelso 7-3. Andruw Jones hit a pair of home runs and drove in three, Dave Johnson also went deep, and Randy Johnson and Jefferson County beat Cashmere 8-3. Mickey Lolich pitched a seven-hitter and Greg Luzinski homered as Long Beach topped Davenport 7-1. Al Oliver hit a homer and drove in three, and Ocean Shores beat Ephrata 6-2. Bob Welch allowed a run on just three hits in seven innings and David Wright hit a two-run homer in the fourth as Wenatchee edged Snoqualmie 3-2. Mike Trout, Gene Tenace, and Bobby Thomson homered and Tumwater defeated Goldendale 7-5. Satchel Paige allowed just one run on three hits in seven innings, and Vada Pinson snapped a tie with a two-run homer in the sixth as Vancouver beat Bainbridge Island 4-1. Joey Votto had a home run, two doubles, and four RBI and Shane Victorino homered and drove in three as Vancouver outscored North Bend 7-5. Nolan Ryan pitched a four-hitter and struck out 12 and Renton beat Yakima 6-1.
August 23
Willie Upshaw went 3-for-4 with a home run and two doubles, scored three runs and drove in two, and Del Unser also had two RBI as Quincy beat Aberdeen 7-4. Ken Griffey, Jr. hit a two-run homer and Vladimir Guerrero connected on a three-run shot as Goldendale scored five in the eighth and beat Forks 8-6. Harry Heilmann ripped a two-out homer in the top of the ninth and Hoquaim took over first place in the Coast Division with a 3-2 win over Cashmere. Andre Dawson hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth and Davenport defeated Jefferson County 3-2. Long Beach unloaded on Ephrata with seven home runs, including a second-inning grand slam by Carney Lansford, romping to a lopsided 16-4 victory. Hirumitsu Ochiai homered in the top of the tenth to give Ocean Shores a 4-3 win at Moses Lake. Wenatchee scored four in the top of the ninth, three on a home run by Matt Wieters, and beat Tumwater 9-7. Brown, Armando Benitez, and Rod Beck combined on a four-hitter, and though Bainbridge Island managed just two hits, they pushed across two in the second inning on a passed ball and a sacrifice fly and beat Kelso 2-1. Phil Niekro allowed just three hits over eight innings and Graig Nettles drove in three runs with a homer, a sacrifice fly, and a groundout and North Bend bested Pasco 3-1. Vancouver piled up 14 hits and Greg Vaughn and Bobby Veach had three RBI each as the V's bombed Renton 12-3. Ross Youngs went 3-for-5 and scored three runs, leading Yakima to an 8-6 win at Snoqualmie.
August 24
Moises Alou, Allen, and Joe Adcock all hit home runs and Aberdeen routed Quincy 9-2. Griffey and Hank Greenberg hit home runs and Tom Glavine upped his record to 13-5 as Goldendale beat Forks 5-2. Bartolo Colon pitched a five-hitter, Eddie Collins went 4-for-4, and Oscar Charleston drove in four runs as Cashmere defeated Hoquiam 6-2. Dizzy Dean pitched a seven-hitter and Joe DiMaggio drove in five runs as Davenport blanked Jefferson County 9-0. Scott Erickson scattered eight hits and Darrell Evans had a homer and four RBI in Ephrata's 7-1 win over Long Beach. Musial went 4-for-4 and had a double, triple, and three RBI, leading Moses Lake to a 10-2 win over Ocean Shores. John Tudor pitched a four-hitter and Miguel Tejada hit a two-run homer in the second as Tumwater blanked Wenatchee 3-0. Ralph Kiner hit a three-run homer to cap a four-run rally in the top of the tenth and Kelso beat Bainbridge Island 9-5. Bill Nicholson, Nettles, and Katsuya Nomura homered as North Bend out-slugged Pasco 7-6. Arky Vaughan scored the go-ahead run on a groundout in the bottom of the seventh and Vancouver held on to beat Renton 5-4. Don Sutton pitched a two-hitter and Louis Santop hit a two-run homer off Emil Yde in the second inning and Snoqualmie blanked Yakima 2-0.
August 25
Hisashi Iwakuma pitched a five-hitter and Quincy blanked Aberdeen 3-0. Ron Guidry had a 3-0 lead through eight; Travis Fryman got to him with a two-run homer in the ninth, but Goose Gossage got the last out as Goldendale topped Forks 3-2. Roberto Clemente singled to plate Orlando Cepeda with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth, and Cashmere held on to beat Hoquiam 5-4. Andruw Jones went 4-for-4 with two homers and five RBI, and Walter Johnson pitched a six-hitter as Jefferson County clubbed Davenport 9-1. Dwight Evans scored on a passed ball by Javy Lopez in the bottom of the eleventh and Ephrata topped Long Beach 5-4. Jack Morris won his first start of the season, pitching seven solid innings, and Edgar Martinez hit three solo home runs during Moses Lake's 6-3 win over Ocean Shores. Tumwater was down 6-1 after seven, but scored three in the eighth and three more in the ninth to stun Wenatchee 7-6. Barry Bonds went 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI, Johnny Bench homered and knocked in three, and Bainbridge Island drubbed Kelso 10-4. Rico Petrocelli hit a two-run homer in the fourth and drove in a run with a single in the ninth as Pasco won at North Bend 8-3. Renton led 2-1 after seven, but Dave Righetti blew a save in his return from the injured list; Ellis Valentine slugged a three-run homer against him in the bottom of the eighth and Vancouver beat Renton 4-2. Hilton Smith pitched a six-hitter and Duke Snider and Ted Simmons homered as Snoqualmie blanked Yakima 6-0.
August 26
Allen drove in three runs with an RBI single in the first and a two-run homer in the fourth, and Pete Alexander pitched eight solid innings to improve his record to 15-1 as Aberdeen topped Quincy 6-3. Griffey hit two home runs; he and Lou Gehrig went back-to-back in the top of the ninth to put Goldendale ahead in a 4-3 win at Forks. Billy Herman snapped a tie with a pinch homer off Aroldis Chapman in the top of the ninth, and Hoquiam tacked on another run to beat Cashmere 4-2. Reggie Jackson's two-run single was the key run in a four-run fifth that chased Don Drysdale, and Jefferson County held on for a 6-4 win at Davenport. Pop Lloyd hit a pinch, three-run homer to cap a four-run rally in the top of the ninth, and Long Beach won at Ephrata 7-3. Greg Maddux pitched eight solid innings and Willie Mays and Joe Morgan homered as Moses Lake topped Ocean Shores 5-3. Four RBI by Bernie Williams helped Wenatchee build a 10-0 lead into the seventh, and they managed to hold on to beat Tumwater 10-6. Vida Blue pitched a two-hitter and Bench drove in two with a pair of doubles as Bainbridge Island kayoed Clayton Kershaw early and rolled to an 8-1 win over Kelso. Mike Napoli hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to break open a tight contest and Don Newcombe scattered eight hits in North Bend's 7-3 win over Pasco. Frank Robinson went 3-for-5 with a homer, double, and two RBI and Renton won at Vancouver 7-4. Rudy York hit two home runs and Barry Zito pitched eight decent innings as Yakima edged Snoqualmie 4-3.
August 27
Hank Aaron drove in three runs; his two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth gave Aberdeen a 5-3 win over Wenatchee. Frank Frisch went 5-for-8, and his leadoff homer in the bottom of the 16th gave Forks a 6-5 win over Cashmere. Both Bill Dickey and Dawson had a home run and three RBI, and Bobby Doerr drove in two in Davenport's 10-6 win at Hoquiam. David Justice hit a sacrifice fly to plate Brian Jordan with the game-winner in the bottom of the eleventh as Jefferson County beat Ephrata 5-4. Mike Mussina scattered 11 hits in a complete-game effort and Mays and Musial drove in two runs each as Moses Lake topped Long Beach 7-2. Bob Ojeda outdueled Jack Quinn and Ocean Shores edged Quincy 2-1. Bob Gibson pitched a two-hitter in his return from the injured list and Goose Goslin and Gary Gaetti both had two RBI as Goldendale thumped Bainbridge Island 7-1. Tony Kubek singled with the bases full in the bottom of the eleventh to plate Chuck Klein with the winning run as Kelso topped North Bend 3-2. Mike Piazza's three-run homer was the key blow in Pasco's five-run seventh, and Albert Pujols and Andy Pafko also homered as Pasco topped Renton 8-4. Javier Vazquez was chased in the second inning, though three errors led to four unearned runs for Snoqualmie, which went on to beat Vancouver 8-6. Mike Trout drove in six runs with a homer, a double, and a single, and Frank Thomas added four RBI as Tumwater outscored Yakima 13-7.
August 28
Honus Wagner had a homer, double, and three RBI, and Bernie Williams also went deep as Wenatchee won at Aberdeen 9-7. Jimmie Foxx hit for the cycle and drove in four runs to lead Forks to a 6-5 win over Cashmere. Hornsby went 3-for-4 with a homer, double, and two RBI and Hoquiam beat Davenport 4-3. Randy Jones allowed just one run on five hits in seven innings and Jefferson County gave him all the runs he needed in the first, scoring four, two on a homer by Andruw Jones, and the J's beat Ephrata 4-1. Mickey Mantle hit two homers and drove in four runs, and Moses Lake built an early 5-0 lead and cruised to an 11-6 win at Long Beach. Ocean Shores scored three in the bottom of the ninth to force bonus panels, but Quincy responded with five in the top of the tenth, getting homers from Mike Ivie and Justin Upton, and won the game 8-3. Jeff Bagwell hit a three-run homer in the first and Brown pitched seven strong innings as Bainbridge Island defeated Goldendale 3-1. Kelso scored six in the bottom of the eighth in a rally capped by a pinch-hit grand slam by Harmon Killebrew and shocked North Bend 6-5. Renton scored three in the top of the seventh, two of them on a double by Tim Raines, and came from behind to beat Pasco 4-3. Vancouver scored three in the bottom of the eighth, helped by a rare error by Tris Speaker, and defeated Snoqualmie 5-2. Jordan Zimmerman pitched a three-hitter and Richie Zisk drove in five runs with a homer and a triple as Yakima topped Tumwater 5-1.
Injuries
Bob Veale left his August 23 start with a sore elbow and will be out for about three weeks. Vancouver called up Pete Vuckovich to take Veale's place in the rotation. Moses Lake lost Pedro Martinez to an ingrown toenail, and he'll be out for about three weeks. The M's called up Jack Morris to take Pedro's spot in the rotation. Pasco's rotation took a shot when Andy Pettitte went down with a blister on the ring finger of his non-throwing hand, which may sideline him for nearly a month. Billy Pierce was called up to join the rotation. Pasco's pitching staff took another blow August 27 when Satchel Paige had to leave his start after the fourth inning because something angried up his blood. He'll be out two to three weeks, and Herb Pennock was called up to fill in. Jimmy Key left his August 28 start with an earache so severe it may keep him out for the rest of the season. Bob Knepper was called up to take Key's spot in the Kelso rotation.
