The East Division race remains tight, with Moses Lake and Wenatchee still tied for the top spot, while Cashmere dropped out of the tie and is two games back. In the Cost Division Aberdeen moved out to a one-game lead over Hoquiam, while Jefferson County and Forks both lost three games in the standings and are now six and seven games back, respectively. Bainbridge Island added a game to its lead in the Puget Division and is now five up on Snoqualmie. Goldendale retains a solid lead in the South Division, though Pasco gained three games but is still 11 out. The G's have both Bob Gibson and Lefty Grove on the injured list, though both are expected back in about a week.

August 15
Hank Aaron and Dick Allen homered and Aberdeen edged Ephrata 5-4. Greg Maddux pitched a four-hitter and Joe Medwick's three-run homer capped a four-run sixth as Moses Lake beat Forks 4-1. Ichiro had three hits, including a home run and a triple, and scored three runs as Quincy doubled up on Hoquiam 6-3. Mike Piazza and Andy Pafko hit two-run homers against Walter Johnson and Palmer and Pasco beat Wenatchee 4-2. Eddie Collins went 4-for-5 and drove in four runs, including the first and last of a seven-run rally in the sixth as Cashmere thumped Long Beach 10-5. Bobby Doerr drove in five runs with a three-run homer and a two-run single as Davenport built a 9-0 lead after four innings, then had to hold on to beat Ocean Shores 9-8. Early Wynn pitched a solid seven innings and Ted Williams had two RBI in Wenatchee's 4-2 win over Renton. Mike Schmidt drove in three runs with a triple, a groundout, and a sacrifice fly and Snoqualmie beat Goldendale 6-4. Virgil Trucks pitched a three-hitter and Trout hit a pair of two-run homers off Sandy Koufax as Tumwater beat Kelso 5-1. Jeff Bagwell drove in three runs with a homer and a double, and Bobby Bonds and Lou Boudreau also went deep as Bainbridge Island beat Vancouver 7-4. Ross Youngs singled to plate the go-ahead run as Yakima scored two in the top of the eighth to beat North Bend 2-1.
August 16
Earl Averill cracked a pinch-hit, three-run homer in the top of the eighth and Aberdeen came from behind to win at Ephrata 7-5. Mike Mussina allowed just one run on seven hits in eight innings, and Mickey Mantle homered as Moses Lake beat Forks 3-1. Hoquiam rapped 12 hits, led by three from Rogers Hornsby, who had three RBI, and Felix Hernandez struck out 11 as the H's beat Quincy 9-3. Camilo Pascual pitched a four-hitter and fanned 11 and Dave Parker and Piazza homered as Pasco whipped Jefferson County 7-1. Long Beach got just three hits, but scored three in the top of the seventh, two on a home run by Ray Lankford, and beat Cashmere 3-2. Talk about setting the table: each of the first three hitters in the Davenport lineup--Chili Davis, Ray Dandridge, and Dawson--had three hits, Dawson logging a pair of home runs, a triple, and three RBI, and the D's outscored Ocean Shores 10-7. Manny Ramirez went 4-for-5 with a home run and drove in three runs, Frank Robinson also went deep, and Renton bested Wenatchee 7-5. Warren Spahn pitched a four-hitter and belted a two-run homer in the sixth, and Schmidt hit a three-run blast in the first and Snoqualmie topped Goldendale 6-1. Tumwater scored six in the sixth on a double, five singles, two walks, and an error and held on to beat Kelso 7-5. Johnny Bench hit two home runs, including a walkoff shot in the tenth that gave Bainbridge island a 2-1 win over Vancouver. Robin Yount plated Kouji Yamamoto with the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth, and Pat Zachry saved Yakima's 4-3 win over North Bend.
August 17
Aaron and Luke Appling had three hits each and Allen homered as Aberdeen beat Ephrata 6-4. Juan Marichal left the contest with a minor injury in the second inning, but five Moses Lake relief pitchers completed the seven-hitter and the M's beat Forks 3-0. Jack Quinn "improved" his record to 3-15, allowing just one run on seven hits in eight innings, and Quincy edged Hoquiam 2-1. Brandon Phillips homered off Mike Jackson in the bottom of the tenth to give Pasco a 4-3 win over Jefferson County. Evan Longoria and Javy Lopez had two RBI each, and Mickey Lolich allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings, improving his record to 4-0 as Long Beach won at Cashmere 6-3. John Donaldson pitched a three-hitter and Davenport scored early and often in a 10-1 thrashing of Ocean Shores. Bob Welch pitched a three-hitter and Lou Whitaker had a homer, triple, and three RBI as Wenatchee bopped Renton 7-1. Gary Sheffield hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the tenth and Snoqualmie beat Goldendale 9-6. Tumwater scored three in the bottom of the eighth on three singles, a walk, an infield out, and a sacrifice fly and held on to beat Kelso 6-5. Joey Votto hit a two-run homer to cap a three-run rally in the eighth and Vancouver beat Bainbridge Island 4-3. Curt Young pitched five innings of one-hit relief and Yamamoto scored two runs as Yakima topped North Bend 3-1.
August 18
Ephrata scored two in the bottom of the ninth, getting the game-winner on a single by Darrell Evans that plated Jacoby Ellsbury, and beat Aberdeen 5-4. Christy Mathewson pitched a one-hitter, allowing just a single by his counterpart, Willie Foster, with two out in the sixth, and he also drove in three runs with a homer and a single as Moses Lake routed Forks 10-0. Del Unser drove in three runs with a single and a sacrifice fly as Quincy built a 5-0 lead against Roy Halladay after three innings and cruised to a 6-2 win over Hoquiam. Gaylord Perry and two relievers combined on a three-hitter and Piazza drove in the go-ahead run with a pinch single in the bottom of the seventh as Pasco beat Jefferson County 2-1. Cobb and Cabrera hit homers and Cashmere topped Long Beach 6-3. Davenport rapped 15 hits, scoring five in the second and rolling to an 11-5 win over Ocean Shores. Renton scored six in the bottom of the eighth, a rally capped by a three-run pinch homer by Pete Rose, and beat Wenatchee 6-4. Tom Glavine allowed five runs, just two earned, over 7 2/3 innings and also drove in two runs and Goldendale beat Snoqualmie 7-5. Jimmy Key and Ellis Kinder teamed up on a four-hitter and Jeff Kent drove in three runs as Kelso beat Tumwater 4-2. Kevin Brown allowed just one run over seven innings, and Bagwell drove in three as Bainbridge Island edged Vancouver 4-3. North Bend scored three in the bottom of the seventh, taking the lead on an RBI single by Charlie Neal, and held on to beat Yakima 3-2.
August 19
Pedro Martinez allowed just one run on six hits over seven innings, and Joe Morgan homered as Moses Lake won its fifth straight, beating Aberdeen 3-1. An errant pickoff throw by Rollie Fingers put the go-ahead run in scoring position in the top of the ninth, and Justin Upton singled to plate Willie Upshaw and Quincy edged Forks 2-1. Tim Hudson pitched a five-hitter and Billy Herman had a homer and two RBI in Hoquiam's 6-2 win over Kelso. Judy Johnson slugged a pinch homer in the bottom of the eleventh giving Jefferson County a 5-4 win over Cashmere. Joe DiMaggio and Dihigo both drove in three runs to lead Davenport to a 9-5 win at Long Beach. Al Oliver's three-run homer capped a four-run rally in the bottom of the ninth as Ocean Shores beat Ephrata 9-7. Back-to-back doubles by Larry Walker and Williams in the bottom of the eighth snapped a tie and Wenatchee held on to beat Snoqualmie 6-5. Ron Guidry, Eric Gagne, and Goose Gossage combined on a four-hitter and Griffey went 3-for-4 with a pair of homers as Goldendale blanked Tumwater 4-0. Bert Blyleven, Zach Britton, and Rod Beck tag-teamed a two-hitter and Bobby Bonds homered as Bainbridge Island topped Pasco 3-1. Justin Verlander pitched a five-hitter and Votto went 3-for-4 with two home runs and a double as Vancouver thumped North Bend 7-1. Yaz went 4-for-5 with three home runs and four RBI and Yakima beat Renton 8-4.
August 20
Bobby Abreu went 4-for-4 with a home run and two doubles, scoring the go-ahead run Appling's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth as Aberdeen edged Moses Lake 5-4. Forks racked up 13 hits, including six home runs, two by Todd Frazier, in a 9-2 win over Quincy. Cobb went 4-for-5, including a triple and two doubles, and Cashmere topped Jefferson County 6-3. Ray Durham went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs, and two ribbies as Davenport clubbed Long Beach 9-4. Dock Ellis took a shutout into the ninth, but needed last-out relief help from Dennis Eckersley to seal Ephrata's 4-2 win at Ocean Shores. Wynn pitched a five-hitter and Wenatchee hit four home runs in a 9-1 romp over Snoqualmie. In a see-saw affair Tumwater took an early 5-0 lead, fell behind after eight, tied the game on a two-run homer by Christobel Torriente in the top of the ninth, and won it on a Danny Tartabull solo shot in the tenth, beating Goldendale 8-7. Palmer pitched a four-hitter, while Pasco scratched out a run off Jim Bunning in the first and edged Bainbridge Island 1-0. Starter Frank Viola left the game with a twisted ankle in the fifth inning, but four Vancouver relievers completed the seven-hit shutout and the V's beat North Bend 2-0. Renton scored five runs in the top of the ninth on three walks, two doubles, and a single and came from behind to beat Yakima 6-4.
August 21
Moises Alou slugged a pinch, three run homer off Jeff Montgomery in the bottom of the ninth and Aberdeen stunned Moses Lake 5-3. Jimmie Foxx smacked two home runs, including a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth that gave Forks a 9-8 win over Quincy. Kelso scored three in the top of the ninth on home runs by Jumbo Kimbro and Al Kaline, but Hoquiam answered with three in the bottom of the frame on a three-run triple by Harry Heilmann to win it 6-5. Reggie Jackson drove in five runs with a three-run homer and a two-run double and Jefferson County beat Cashmere 6-4. Doug DeCinces and Dihigo homered in Davenport's 5-2 win at Long Beach. Yutaka Enatsu pitched a five hitter and Ephrata beat Ocean Shores and Roy Oswalt on his return from the injured list, 3-0. Wilbur Wood, Billy Wagner, and Hoyt Wilhelm combined on a two-hitter and Dave Winfield hit a two-run homer to cap a three-run rally in the seventh as Wenatchee beat Snoqualmie 4-1. Lou Gehrig went 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBI as Goldendale piled up 16 hits in a 10-2 rout of Tumwater. Albert Pujols hit a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh to break open a tight game and Pasco beat Bainbridge Island 8-4. Mike Napoli hit a two-run homer in the top of the tenth and North Bend topped Vancouver 5-3. Brooks Robinson drove in three runs; his two-run homer in the top of the eleventh gave Renton a 5-3 win over Yakima.
Injuries
Bob Feller was injured during his August 19 start and will be out for a couple of weeks. Chuck Finley was called up to fill Feller's spot in the Forks rotation. Billy Wagner left a game August 21 with a sore knee and will likely be out for a couple of weeks. Wenatchee called up Bob Wickman to help out in the bullpen. Lefty Grove left his August 21 start with a bruised knee, and Burleigh Grimes was called up to fill his spot in the Goldendale rotation.
