Renton scored a run off Martinez in the first when Jackie Robinson slugged a triple with one out and came to the plate on a groundout by Babe Ruth. It was all Pedro and the M's after that. Renton starter Nolan Ryan made the one run stand up until the fourth, when Moses Lake scored four to take a lead they would not relinquish. They opened the frame with three straight singles, an infield hit by Willie Mays, a ground single to left by Stan Musial, and another infield hit by Mickey Mantle. Eddie Murray then lined a single to left center, scoring Mays and Musial and sending Mantle to third, who then scored on a sacrifice fly by Mathews. Joe Mauer singled down the right field line moving Murray to third. He scored on a base hit by Rabbit Maranville to make it 4-1 Moses Lake.
The M's added a run in the top of the sixth on a leadoff homer by Morgan, and three more in the seventh during a rally ignited by a home run by Mathews.
Martinez improved his record to 14-4 with the win. He's tentatively penciled in to start game two of the opening round playoff series against Goldendale.
