Bainbridge Island has seized control of the Puget Division, having won six in a row and 11 of 12, and now leads both Renton and Snoqualmie by 12 games. Goldendale, once up by as many as 13 games in the South, leads Pasco by seven games. The G's just broke a six-game losing streak and have won just three of their last 12. Aberdeen leads the Coast Division by five games. The closest race is in the East, where Moses Lake is three games ahead of Wenatchee.

September 5
Moses Lake scored six in the third against Warneke and cruised to a 9-3 win over Wenatchee, extending it's division lead over the second-place W's to two games. Eddie Mathews hit a homer and drove in three and Mickey Mantle, Joe Mauer, and Johnny Mize also went deep for the M's. Kershaw pitched a seven-hitter and struck out 13 and Kelso whitewashed Aberdeen 11-0, handing Pete Alexander just his second defeat of the season. Vada Pinson hit a one-out homer off Bob Feller in the top of the first, and that was the scoring as Camilo Pascual pitched a four-hitter and Pasco blanked Forks 1-0. Felix Hernandez allowed just six hits in 7 innings, but two of them were three-run homers, by Arky Vaughan and Mo Vaughn, and Vancouver and Fernando Valenzuela beat Hoquiam 8-5. Fergie Jenkins pitched a six-hitter and struck out seven as Jefferson County blanked Yakima 5-0. Evan Longoria hit a homer and drove in two, and Greg Luzinski also had a pair of RBI as Long Beach outscored Bainbridge Island 7-5. Mel Ott had four RBI on a three-run homer in the third and a run-scoring single in the sixth, and Ocean Shores scored six unearned runs thanks to four North Bend errors in a 10-5 romp. Clemens pitched a four-hitter and Cashmere scored two in the first on run-scoring doubles by Miguel Cabrera and Oscar Charleston, beating Renton 2-0. Martin Dihigo and Rick Dempsey homered, and Bill Dickey hit a two-run triple as Davenport topped Snoqualmie 7-3. Tom Tresh knocked a homer in the top of the 14th and Tumwater outlasted Ephrata 4-3. Starting pitcher Kazahisu Inao and Chris Ianetta homered in Quincy's 8-2 win over Goldendale.
September 6
Bobby Avila hit a two-run pinch double to cap Aberdeen's three-run sixth and the A's beat Kelso 3-2, increasing their lead over Hoquiam in the Coast Division to five games. Johnny Mize hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first, and Moses Lake led all the way in a 7-3 win over Wenatchee, increasing their East Division lead over the W's to three games. Albert Pujols drove in five runs with a pair of homers, but it was a suicide squeeze bunt by relief pitcher John Franco that capped a three-run rally by Forks in the bottom of the eighth and gave them an 8-7 win over Pasco. Hoquiam made five errors leading to seven unearned runs in a 10-4 loss to Vancouver. Randy Johnson scattered eight hits over seven innings and struck out 10, Reggie Jackson drove in three runs with a homer and a double, and Jefferson County beat Yakima 5-3. Tommy Bridges pitched a five-hitter, Bobby Bonds went 3-for-5 with two homers, a double, and four RBI, and Bainbridge Island routed Long Beach 10-2. Lefty O'Doul went 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBI, and scored three runs and Ocean Shores beat North Bend 5-4. Tim Raines went 4-for-4 and scored two runs, Jackie Robinson was 3-for-5 and drove in a pair, and Renton edged Cashmere 4-3. Snoqualmie scored two in the seventh on a homer by Willie Stargell and an RBI triple by Duke Snider, and Snoqualmie went on to beat Davenport 3-1. Christobel Torriente homered in the first, Mike Trout hit a two-run shot in the second, and Frank Thomas hit a three-run bomb in the fourth as Tumwater rolled to a 10-5 win at Ephrata. Ichiro and Chase Utley both had four hits; Ichiro scored three runs and Utley drove in five as Quincy outscored Goldendale 9-7.
September 7
Bucky Walters pitched a three-hitter, Bernie Williams hit a pair of homers and drove in five runs, Paul Waner knocked in three, and Wenatchee drubbed Moses Lake 12-3, moving back within two games of the M's in the East Division. Joe Adcock hit a pair of homers and drove in three, but it was Bobby Allison's bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth that gave Aberdeen a 7-6 win over Kelso. Hoquiam's bullpen imploded, and Vancouver scored two in the tenth with the help of three walks issued by Willie Hernandez and handed the H's their ninth straight loss, 8-6. Willie Foster pitched a six-hitter, Carlton Fisk hit a pair of homers and drove in three, and Forks topped Pasco 7-2. Jordan Zimmerman scattered six hits over eight innings and hit a two-run single in the fifth as Yakima beat Jefferson County 4-3. Carlos Beltran drove in four runs, Barry Bonds hit two home runs and drove in three, George Brett and Ernie Banks also had three RBI each, and Bainbridge Island clobbered Long Beach 15-2. Cashmere scored three in the first, two on a home run by Roy Campanella, and held on to beat Renton 4-2. Darrell Evans hit a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth and Ephrata beat Tumwater 4-1. Mike Ivie homered in the bottom of the eighth and Quincy beat Goldendale 2-1.
September 8
Christy Mathewson pitched a five-hitter, with last-out help from Jeff Montgomery, and Joe Medwick hit a three-run homer in the third, leading Moses Lake to a 6-1 win over Goldendale. The M's maintained their two-game lead in the East Division, while Goldendale's lead in the South shrank to seven because of its fourth straight loss. Mike Piazza drove in four runs with a homer, a double, and a single, and Pasco beat Aberdeen 6-3 to pull within seven of Goldendale. Toby Harrah singled to drive in two in the eighth to snap a 5-all tie and Hoquiam beat Yakima 7-5 to snap a nine-game losing streak and move within five of Aberdeen in the Coast Division. Bainbridge Island scored four in the bottom of the eighth to break open a close one and topped Jefferson County 6-1. George Foster went 4-for-4 with three homers and eight RBI and Forks pummeled Vancouver 9-5. Long Beach racked up 16 hits, including three each by Kenny Lofton and Tony Lazzeri, and thumped North Bend 9-5. Babe Ruth drove in three runs, his two-run homer in the seventh propelling Renton to a 3-1 win over Ocean Shores. Al Simmons smacked a pinch-hit grand slam in the bottom of the ninth and Snoqualmie beat Cashmere 11-7. Larry Doby singled to plate Andre Dawson in the top of the tenth and Davenport bested Tumwater 5-4. Larry Walker and Dave Winfield homered to power Wenatchee's 7-3 win over Ephrata. Mike Krukow pitched a six-hitter and George Kell singled in the second to plate Ian Kinsler with the game's only run as Kelso blanked Quincy 1-0.
September 9
Aberdeen scored seven off Jim Palmer in the top of the first, including a home run by John Antonelli, who pitched a six-hitter as the A's routed Pasco 12-2. Jack Morris allowed just three runs on four hits in seven innings, and Stan Musial and Thurman Munson homered as Moses Lake topped Goldendale 5-4. Ephrata scored six against Early Wynn in the first three innings and held on to beat Wenatchee 6-4, dropping the W's three games behind Moses Lake in the East Division. Bobby Bonds and Banks both homered and drove in two runs as Bainbridge Island beat Jefferson County 5-3, winning its fourth straight and stretching its lead over Snoqualmie in the Puget Division to eleven games. Catfish Hunter pitched a five-hitter, Harry Heilmann had a homer, a double, and two RBI, and Hoquiam topped Yakima 5-1. Bob Lemon pitched a six-hitter and Barry Larkin had four hits in Long Beach's 5-0 win at North Bend. Cal Ripken, Jr. drove in three runs with a double and a triple and Renton defeated Ocean Shores 7-5. Gene Tenace led off the bottom of the ninth with a pinch homer off Edwin Diaz and Tumwater outscored Davenport 9-8. Sandy Koufax allowed two runs on eight hits over eight innings and struck out 12, Killebrew and Jason Kendall both had a homer and three RBI, and Kelso clobbered Quincy 8-2.
September 10
Warneke pitched a no-hitter and drove in the game's only run with a squeeze bunt in the seventh as Wenatchee beat Ephrata 1-0. Greg Maddux pitched a four-hitter and Moses Lake got homers from Musial, Edgar Martinez, and Marty Marion, knocking out Ron Guidry in the third on the way to a 7-1 win over Goldendale. Moses Lake maintained its three-game lead over Wenatchee in the East Division. Alexander pitched a seven-hitter, Aberdeen got 16 hits, including three each from Luke Appling, Joe Adcock, and Earl Averill, and the A's thumped Pasco 9-2. Vida Blue tossed a four-hitter and Yogi Berra knocked in four runs with a pair of homers during Bainbridge Island's 7-2 win over Jefferson County. It was the fifth straight win for the Bees, who now lead the Puget Division by 12 games. Fernando Valenzuela scattered nine hits in a complete-game effort and Mo Vaughn slugged a pinch homer in the bottom of the ninth to give Vancouver a 4-3 win over Forks. Ryan Zimmerman went 2-for-4 with a home run, and scored what proved to be the winning run on a wild pitch in the seventh as Yakima edged Hoquiam 4-3. North Bend scored five in the bottom of the ninth, the final two on Phil Nevin's pinch homer off Sparky Lyle, and beat Long Beach 5-4. The Bambino, Frank Robinson, and Brooks Robinson homered during Renton's 6-4 win over Ocean Shores. Roberto Clemente and Rocky Colavito homered to lead Cashmere to a 4-1 win at Snoqualmie. Killebrew, Masayuki Kakefu, and Tony Kubek homered and Kelso topped Quincy 6-1.
September 11
Hoquiam scored three in the eighth, taking the lead on a two-run triple by Stan Hack and coming from behind to beat Yakima 11-9 and pulling within five games of Aberdeen in the Coast Division. Palmer pitched seven solid innings and Pinson and Pujols homered and Pasco beat Aberdeen 3-0. Barry Bonds hit a two-run homer in the first off Randy Johnson, Bobby Bonds kayoed the Big Unit with a grand slam in the third, and Bainbridge Island rolled to a 9-5 win over Jefferson County, maintaining its 12-game lead in the Puget Division. Vladimir Guerrero cracked a pinch-hit, two run homer in the top of the eigthth to provide the winning margin as Goldendale edged Moses Lake 5-4. The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the G's, who lead the South Division by seven games, while the M's maintained their three-game edge in the East. Forks parlayed three walks in the top of the eighth into two runs, getting the go-ahead tally on a pinch single by Nellie Fox and beating Vancouver 5-4. Mike Napoli singled to plate Bill North with the go-ahead run in the eighth and North Bend beat Long Beach 4-3. Ruth socked his fortieth home run and drove in three to lead Renton to a 7-2 win over Ocean Shores. Bret Saberhagen pitched a five-hitter and Al Simmons hit a three-run homer as Snoqualmie bested Cashmere 6-1. Davenport scored five in the second, four on a grand slam by Dawson, and held on against a late Tumwater comeback to win 7-6. Jim Edmonds had three hits, including a homer, and four RBI to lead Ephrata to a 7-6 win over Wenatchee. Charlie Keller went 4-for-6, his second double of the game scoring Al Kaline from first in the bottom of the 16th to give Kelso a 6-5 win over Quincy.
Injuries
Tug McGraw left a September 9 game with a sore wrist and will be out for a couple of weeks. Lindy McDaniel was called up to take McGraw's spot in the Moses Lake bullpen.
